Maintaining a healthy work-life balance
Debra’s perspective
My new hobby… I may not be a Dave Ryding – although we did both start out on a dry slope – but I hope I’ll still be doing this when I’m 100!
Work-life, life-work – it’s good to balance it out. After all, we’re only here for one innings!

I’ve always tried to maintain a healthy work-life balance…
…as a business owner, a mother, a carer, a hobby farmer and an animal lover with quite a collection.
Of course, ‘work-life balance’ means different things to us all. It’s not so much about 50% work, 50% leisure, rather ensuring you feel fulfilled and content in all areas of your life.
It’s widely known that getting outdoors helps with stress reduction, improved mood and self-esteem, as well as general health and wellbeing.
Having recently taken up skiing, I cannot express highly enough the very positive impact of the fresh air, open spaces and sheer adrenalin experienced from a short trip to stay with my son amongst the Swiss mountains.
I’ll never be an Olympian – far from it – although I have progressed to ‘reds’ and even managed a very short section of a black run!
I’m happy just running with the theory ‘healthy body and happy, healthy mind’, whilst making a lifetime of memories with family and friends.
One life – just one person doing one’s best to make it healthy, make it happy, make it count!
